Milwaukee (re-named Murmansk by the Russians) to the United States Navy from the Soviet Union in 1949, and to the atomic bomb testing at Bikini Island, July 1946. Includes a memoir entitled The Gold Star and Guam : War in the Western Pacific, 1941-1942 (1961), relating to the freighter U.S.S. Gold Star, which supplied Guam during World War II.
